Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure, whereby, a camera is inserted into a joint through a portal (a small skin incision, which is less than 10mm in length) to get a detailed and a magnified view of the inside of a joint. Surgical procedures are under taken through these skin portals with specialised instruments. This has revolutionised the management of the injured athlete and the sports person, who largely benefit from the small incisions and quicker rehabilitation, leading to early return to sport.
The has been a lot of development in the arthroscopic techniques of the Knee and the Shoulder joints, but recently arthroscopic techniques of the other joints like the hip, ankle, wrist and the elbow are being undertaken too. Please follow the above links to get more information about these procedures. |
